Threading Speed vs. Cycle Time in Industrial Pipe Threading Machines
Spindle RPM gets most of the attention when shops compare industrial pipe threading machines, but it doesn't tell you how many parts you'll actually produce in an hour. The number that matters is cycle time per workpiece: the total time to load material, cut the thread, reset the diehead and carriage, and get ready for the next part.

1. Machine Design
A good machine cuts out the manual steps between parts. The 792A, our flagship rotating diehead machine, lowers cycle time three ways:
- The material stays put, which is safer, easier to handle, and quicker to set up
- The diehead opens automatically at the end of each cut, at the thread length you set
- The spindle never stops between parts. No waiting for it to spin down, no fiddling with front and rear chucks. Thread the piece, reset, go again.
2. Die Changeover Time
Oster dieheads adjust all four dies at once, with no special gages or individual die adjustment. You can switch sizes in 3 to 5 minutes. On a Landis-style tangent head, the same change runs 30 to 40 minutes. More time cutting threads, less time chasing gages.
3. Setup Repeatability
A mechanical trip and stock stop lets operators set a custom thread length once and repeat it, with no measuring and no guessing. The operator sets the length with the trip stop, loads the material, and slides it forward until it hits the stock stop. Feeding the material into the diehead engages the cut, and the machine threads and opens at the exact length every time.
That kills over-threading and setup guesswork, and it holds across a full batch, even on custom-length bolts. It earns its keep in high-mix shops where thread lengths change from job to job. Instead of leaning on operator judgment or eyeballing alignment, the stop handles it mechanically, which trims cycle time and scrap.
4. Operator Skill Requirements
